Rudi Steenkamp is a spider enthusiast with a passion for macrophotography, particularly of tiny arthropods. By profession, he is a language practitioner specialising in academic editing. In his free time, he photographs spiders found around Bloemfontein or brought back from the fieldwork undertaken by arachnologists based at the University of the Free State. Although he has no formal education in arachnology, he has learned extensively from knowledgeable individuals and by reading articles and books about spiders. In 2022, he became the chairperson of the Spider Club of Southern Africa, a platform he has used to educate people about spiders for over 10 years.
