Supporting SANCCOB with Every Purchase

When you buy any book from our collection, you’re doing more than just discovering the wonders of nature – you’re helping to protect one of South Africa’s most endangered seabirds, the African Penguin.

For every book sold, we donate R10 to SANCCOB (the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds), a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing African penguins and other threatened seabirds.

Why African Penguins Need Our Help

Once rich along South Africa’s coast, African Penguins are now on the brink of extinction. Their populations have declined by nearly 99% over the past century due to habitat loss, overfishing, and environmental threats. Without urgent conservation efforts, we could lose these incredible birds forever.

That’s where SANCCOB steps in, making a real impact through:

  • Rescue & Rehabilitation – Providing expert care for over 2,500 sick, injured, and oiled seabirds every year, giving them a second chance at life.
  • Saving Abandoned Chicks – Hand-raising orphaned African Penguin chicks that would otherwise not survive and releasing them back into the wild.
  • Education & Research – Raising awareness about seabird conservation and conducting critical research to protect marine ecosystems.

How Your Book Purchase Makes a Difference

Every time you buy a book, you’re directly supporting these life-saving efforts. It’s a small action that creates a lasting impact for South Africa’s wildlife.

Meet Pippa the Penguin

We’re thrilled to introduce Pippa the Penguin, our very own adopted seabird and a symbol of our commitment to African penguin conservation. Through our partnership with SANCCOB, we’ve adopted Pippa to help raise awareness about the urgent need to protect these incredible birds.

Follow Pippa’s Journey – Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates, photos, and conservation milestones.

Tracking Our Impact – We’ll be sharing how many penguins have been adopted through our Struik Nature community.

Let’s read, learn, and protect our planet – one book (and one penguin) at a time!
