Dr Roger N. Scoon completed his PhD at Rhodes University where his research sparked a lifelong focus on the platinum and chromite deposits of the Bushveld Complex. His career spans roles as a mine and exploration geologist, project manager for feasibility studies, and leader of international field excursions, including for the International Geological Congress (2016) and the Geological Society of South Africa (2024). As a director of Platexco Inc., he oversaw the sale of key platinum resources that led to the establishment of Marula Platinum Mine. Roger has published extensively on geology and geoheritage, with recent books including The Geotraveller (2021) and Geological Highlights of East Africa’s National Parks (2022). He received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Rhodes University in 2021 and was appointed Honorary Professor in its Geology Department in 2025.
