Drawing from Birds on the Brink, Alan Lee reveals the beauty, struggles, and conservation challenges of threatened species, weaving together science, images, and frontline stories of hope.
Alan Lee is the Science and Innovation Programme Manager at BirdLife South Africa, where he led the organisation’s work on the Red List of Birds for South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini. He has a PhD on Amazonian parrots, and his research spans birds of the Fynbos and Karoo, citizen science, and conservation biology. Alan is co-author of Birds on the Brink, a BirdLife South Africa collaboration with Penguin Random House that blends rigorous science with compelling storytelling to showcase the region’s threatened bird species. His work focuses on making biodiversity science accessible and inspiring action to protect vulnerable species and habitats.
