Meet Pippa the Penguin
We’re thrilled to introduce Pippa the Penguin, our very own adopted seabird and a symbol of our commitment to African Penguin conservation. Through our partnership with SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds), we’ve adopted Pippa to help raise awareness about the urgent need to protect these remarkable birds. And now, you can adopt one too!
Follow Pippa’s journey – Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates, photos, and conservation milestones.

Why African Penguins Need Our Help
Once plentiful along South Africa’s coast, African Penguins are now on the brink of extinction. Their populations have declined over the past century due to habitat loss, lack of food availability, and environmental threats. Without urgent conservation efforts, we could lose them forever.
That’s where SANCCOB steps in, making a real impact through:
- Rescue and Rehabilitation – Providing expert care for over 2,500 sick, injured, and oiled seabirds every year, giving them a second chance at life.
- Saving Abandoned Eggs and Chicks – Stepping in to rescue eggs and chicks abandoned by their parents due to various factors, including lack of food availability and extreme weather events. Rescued eggs are artificially incubated and chicks are hand-reared by dedicated SANCCOB personnel until they are strong enough to be released back into the wild to bolster the wild African Penguin population.
- Education and Skills Development – Encouraging sustainable behavioural change whilst raising awareness about seabird conservation via environmental education initiatives. SANCCOB also offers skills development programmes to foster employment opportunities within the conservation sector.
- Research and Advocacy – SANCCOB advocates for seabird conservation and conducts research to protect marine ecosystems.
- Oiled Wildlife – SANCCOB is mandated by the South African government to respond to oil spills and is one of ten leading organisations globally that comprise the Global Oiled Wildlife Response Service. Furthermore, SANCCOB works with industry to ensure preparedness and response plans are in place to mitigate the effects of oil on wildlife.
